Surfing at Mawgan Porth

Worth a look at a middling tide, if easterly winds prevail, surfing at Mawgan Porth is a relatively sheltered and crowd free experience due to its predominantly low profile, and popular with intermediate to expert surfers alike.

But when a storm wind blows, it’s worth a miss with its big fat barrelling waves that close out with no mercy.

Mawgan Porth Beach is a beautiful sandy horseshoe, almost tripling in size when the tide subsides, and attracts a large volume of sun seekers in the summer.

The Merrimor Inn is a family friendly pub with a nice beer garden that is heaving in the summer, whilst the Riv Bar on the hill heading back to Newquay, will give you a good taste of the night life.

And if you really want to push the boat (or board) out, a stay at the eco-friendly Bedruthan Steps Hotel is a luxurious way to recuperate from the waves.
